Recommended General Computer Specifications

  • We recommend a computer that can handle demanding CAD packages. For example, use a 64-bit Windows 7 or Windows 10 on a Pentium i7 with 32 GB of RAM.
  • Recommended OS: Windows 7 Professional or Windows 10

Disk Space Requirements

  • The program requires 100 MB of disk space (0.1 Gigabyte).
  • 100 parts require about 14 megabytes of disk space.

Premium Laptop Computer - Highly Recommended

FAST: Dell Precision Model

Specification Date: March 18, 2020

This is the HEXAGON-recommended computer.

These specifications are recommended for scanning with VTube-LASER.

  • Intel Xeon E3-1505M @ 3.00GHz (or equivalent or better) 4-core (with Hyperthreading enabled)
  • GPU NVIDIA Quadro P5000 (4 GB) or better (Quadro series)
  • RAM 64 GB Dual-Channel @ 1063 MHz (or better)
  • OS MS Windows 10 ProIEEE802.11AC or AX type Wi-Fi card
  • Graphic resolution 1920x1080 pixels or better
  • HD 476 GB SSD or better
  • The most important components are the processor, graphics card and RAM. Wi-Fi specs important for Wi-Fi connections.

Two Other Example Computer System Specifications

FAST: Dell Precision Models

  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 minimum - i9 preferred
  • Installed Memory: 32 GB minimum - 64 GB preferred
  • System Type: 64-bit, Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10 preferred
  • Video card: NVIDIA (strongly recommended)
  • Hard drive: A solid-state drive (SSD) is critical. A mechanical hard drive tends to bog Windows speed down - especially if it is running Windows 10.
  • Dell Precision laptops are rugged and very fast

Highly recommended.

Recommended Monitors

We recommend 27" flat panel monitors as the MINIMUM size for measuring center monitors.

The slightly curved monitor that you see here is the SAMSUNG C27F398. As of 2021, our office and development staff use these monitors.

For a factory environment where mutliple users may be viewing the screen at the same time, we recommend a 40 inch monitor or TV.

If the system must be restricted by user type using VTube-LASER's UAC (User Access Control available in v2.9.21, September, 2019), then only use one monitor. Otherwise you can use multiple monitors.

Some customers like to go even larger in order to allow for easy viewing by multiple operators. This B/E Aerospace installation shows a large TV. The benefit of using a TV with an HDMI cable is that the TV has built-in speakers than replace separate amplified speakers.

This setup is ideal for allowing a large group of people to view VTube-LASER at the same time.

Our VTube-iMC (Integrated Measuring Center) uses a 40 inch TV monitor as its standard size.

Keep in mind that some larger TVs have electronics that allow for a lag time in mouse movement - which can be annoying to the user. Higher-priced major brands monitors usually do not have this pointer movement lag.

Important Notes about Screen Resolution and Setup

  • VTube-LASER was designed for screen resolutions of at least 1920 x 1080 pixels. Anything less may reduce the quality of experience for users.
  • When running at 1920 x 1080 resolution, then the Windows screen font size should be set to 100%. 125% works - but makes the program harder to use because it expands some menu items off the bottom of the screen - requiring more scroll bar use to access all the data.
