Yo-Yo

A typical style of linear encoder is a linear position transducer - also known as a "yo-yo" encoder. It contains a spool of cable that, when unwound, rotates an encoder to give a linear length of cable pulled.

Axes

Any linear axis can use this type of encoder. For example, the horizontal head axis, the vertical head axis, and Pressure Die Assist axis can use this style of encoder.

Unimeasure

An inexpensive brand that we have found reliable is the Unimeasure JX-EP series. Download the datasheet for this encoder here.
