FARO USB driver 6.1.2.7 is a rewrite of the USB driver. It has many improvements that are very much worthwhile - like the scanner calibration is much improved.
+
This was added because the ROMER RS4 scanners give VTube-LASER too much data for end-stripes, thus slowing down the graphics engine and measuring process.

+
The LASER point filter value solves this problem by limiting the number of points in a stripe down to a reasonable number for VTube-LASER.

However, this new driver sends tactile probe data at a much higher rate than previous FARO USB drivers. This version of VTube-LASER is tuned to handle the new data rates.
+
If you are using the recommended end-scan technique, then we recommend that the value be no more than 50.

Check.jpgNEW LASER SCAN LOGIC FOR RECTANGULAR AND SQUARE TUBES

IF YOU MEASURE SQUARE TUBES WITH THE LASER SCANNER, THEN THIS IS AN IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR YOU.

The rectangular and square LASER scanning logic is much improved compared to the previous version.

Vtl v2.9.11 rectangular laser scan image.png

Check.jpgFIX - RECTANGULAR PROBE COMPENSATION OFFSET DIRECTION LOGIC CORRECTED

IF YOU MEASURE SQUARE TUBES WITH A BALL PROBE, THEN THIS IS AN IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR YOU.

For TACTILE measuring, we discovered that the rectangular and square tube measurements might project the planes to the wrong side of the ball probe. This incorrect compensation would cause the centerline to shift by up to double the ball diameter.

This has been fixed in this version.

Check.jpgNEW - YELLOW BAR MARKS SPLIT BENDS ACTIVE IN LRA DATA GRID

Split Bends are used to compress two adjacent bends into one larger bend. This is how VTube handles 180-degree (or greater) bends.

It's important for operators to know when Split Bend is active in VTube-STEP or VTube-LASER (for 180-degree or greater bends). VTube compresses the bender data with Split Bends active and measures the part differently.

So VTube now shows a yellow shaded row in the LRA data grids where a Split Bend is switched on.

For details on Split Bends, see VTube-LASER Split Bend Feature

Check.jpgFIX - SPLIT BENDS ACTIVE IN ABSOLUTE LRA DATA GRID

Absolute LRA data is also known as Military Spec bender data. It is still used by the USAF, and possibly other branches of the US military.

If you use the Absolute LRA data with Split Bends, then this update is important for you because we discovered a bug in the absolute (as opposed to incremental) LENGTH calculation when Split Bends were enabled.

The absolute LENGTH calculations after the split bend would be off by half the arc length of the combined split bend. This has been fixed and double-checked against current Mil Spec charts.

See VTube Reverse Calc from MIL-D-9898C Absolute Bender Data to Centerline XYZ Data for an in-depth article on this bender format.

Check.jpgNEW - STAR TECHNOLOGY Bender Corrections Through a Network

We added the STAR EVO SVNet file correction support that allows VTube-LASER to correct STAR EVO benders through a network connection automatically.

Bender corrections only work through VTube-LASER. (Not VTube-STEP)

See VTube STAR SVNet Bender Communications for more details.

Check.jpgNEW - (NEW VALUE) MAXIMUM NUMBER OF POINTS ALLOWED IN END SCAN LASER STRIPE

This was added because the ROMER RS4 scanners give VTube-LASER too much data for end-stripes, thus slowing down the graphics engine and measuring process.

The LASER point filter value solves this problem by limiting the number of points in a stripe down to a reasonable number for VTube-LASER.

If you are using the recommended end-scan technique, then we recommend that the value be no more than 50.

Check.jpgFIX - BENDER SETUP WINDOW DISPLAY ON REDUCED MONITOR COUNT

The Bender Setup window could improperly attempt to display on a monitor that was available, but has become no longer available. This was a problem when opening a laptop monitor, then closing it while VTube-LASER was running.

This has been resolved.

Check.jpg OTHER CHANGES

 • Fix - The End Length deviations were one iteration of the Best Fit loop behind the final value in the Tube Data Storage. This has been fixed so that the final end length values are correctly displayed in Tube Data Storage. (Other deviation data was already correctly stored.)
