Comparing DOCS to Supravision
Supravision and DOCS are developed by Romer. Supravision is an older program that is quite stable. The DOCS software is much newer.
DOCS Software |
Supravision Software |
Active - Continued development |
Static - No more development |
Allows for the measurement of tube data and non-tube data surrounding the tube - including brackets and other fabrications |
Measures only tube shapes |
Can use contact or non-contact measurement |
Can only use non-contact measurement of tube shapes |
Can measure multiple tubes in a single DOCS file |
Can measure one tube per Supravision file |
We have no experience with DOCS beyond a demo. It appears to be fairly simple to setup for tube measurement. |
Measuring tube shapes is simple after you understand the structure of Supravision menus. |
Our Recommendation
As of December, 2007, we have been given a license of DOCS software for evaluation and testing with our Benderlink software.
This software is moderately stable and is capable of Supravision network communications. In comparing the two packages, we recommend that tube fabricators choose DOCS over Supravision because of the new capabilities within DOCS.
Communication with Supravision Network Protocol
See this link for information on which version of DOCS will communicate using SVNET: [1]
Principles for Communication with SVNET
Principle |
Reason |
1 - Perform a RECALL before a MEASURE and BEST FIT if you anticipate the possibility of making a correction after a measurement. |
A RECALL from a bender clears the results of a measure. Therefore, it is not possible to perform a MEASURE, then RECALL, then correct the bender data. |
2 - Be careful to confirm that the incoming data changed the CLRA section of the data alone (and not the nominal LRA). |
If a matching part number is found in memory in DOCS, then a bender data RECALLs only changes the CORRECTED LRA data. However, in other cases, DOCs may assume that you intend to create a new MASTER part with the incoming data. |
